Try to arrive at Boat Ramp "A" (green marker) around 9:30 a.m. and be in the river by 10 a.m. This kayak trip is a short 6 mile roundtrip between 2 boat ramps on Smith River Rd near Reedsport, OR. From the 101/Smith River Rd intersection, drive 11.3 miles east on Smith River Rd to Boat Ramp "A" and launch your kayak. Paddle downriver about 3 miles to Boat Ramp "B" (blue marker) have lunch and return upriver to Boat Ramp "A". The route can be made longer by extending your paddling on either end.

Transportation
Kayaking can also be a mode of transportation in our town of "tidewaters". Bill and I attended the last steering committee meeting for the Umpqua Discovery Center via kayaks. Along the way we saw some wildlife also using the river as transportation, including several deer swimming across the river...
There is a great place to tie up your kayak below the boardwalk and in addition to the Discovery Center you could do lunch at the Schooner or the Waterfront Restaurant. Great way to get around town if you have the time!
